Types Of Solar Plants

On-Grid Solar System

On Grid

An on-Grid Solar system refers to a solar power system that is connected to the local utility company’s power grid, which facilitates solar system owners to  consume power from solar power during favorable conditions as well as from the power grid during the night or when their demand is high.

In this system, Solar panels are used to generate electricity, and any excess  energy is sent back to the grid, which can be credited to the customer’s account through net metering, although not all municipal utilities offer this program. In such cases, a hybrid solar system may be a better option

Off-grid solar system operates independently of the power grid so they rely on battery systems to manage power demands.

These systems use solar panels to generate electricity and any excess energy is stored in batteries for use when the sun is not shining. Since there will not be electricity supply during the night when battery runs out, it is the biggest disadvantage of this system.

Off-Grid Solar Systems

Hybrid Solar Systems

The hybrid solar system is a combination of Off-Grid and On-Grid systems i.e. they are connected to the power grid as well as have a battery backup system.

Hybrid systems are more flexible as this system not only allows Hybrid solar owners to use energy stored in battery systems when demands exceed Solar energy production but also draw electricity from the power grid when the battery runs out

Frequently Asked Questions

Solar energy is the energy produced by the sun's rays. Solar panels convert sunlight into electricity through a process called the photovoltaic effect. When photons from the sun's rays hit the solar panel, they knock electrons in the panel's silicon atoms loose, which creates an electrical current that can be harnessed and used as electricity.
The amount of area required for solar panels depends on several factors, including the size of the solar panel system, the type of solar panels, and the efficiency of the panels.
On average, a residential solar panel system that generates 5 kilowatts of power would require about 300 to 400 square feet of space, but this can vary depending on the specific circumstances of each installation.
It's important to note that the amount of energy you want to generate and your energy usage will also play a role in determining the size of your solar panel system, which will in turn affect the amount of space required for installation.
The amount you can save on your electricity bills depends on several factors, including the size of your solar panel system, your energy usage, and your local electricity rates. On average, homeowners who install solar panels can save between 10% and 30% on their electricity bills.
